In addition to the UV-curable coatings advantages of speed and low emissions for this market, Ecology is adding sustainability by incorporating bio-based materials into its coatings for metal substrates.
Applications such as general metal finishing and automotive and household appliances make up over 70 percent of the powder coatings market. Traditional powder coatings require a heat process to cure the coatings, in order to meet acceptable performance requirements, but Ecology’s coatings are able to satisfy these requirements with a simple UV-curing process that takes seconds, compared to minutes with the conventional powder or solvent-based process.
Products made of metal in combination with seals or other rubber parts, such as gaskets, must be disassembled prior to heat curing, but not so with Ecology’s EcoQuik™ coating. The benefit is high production speeds plus dramatic energy savings plus a smaller manufacturing footprint.
