 Ecology Coatings’ UV-curable coatings technology represents a radical paradigm shift within the $20 billion OEM coatings markets. These markets continue to reward firms that are innovative and adopt new technologies that enhance value.
While the majority of coatings manufacturers continue to focus their efforts on improving the status quo for traditional powder-coat, waterborne and solvent-based coatings, Ecology Coatings’ founder took a different path by creating a clean technology before the phrase existed. Her mission was and still is to develop novel coatings that are superior to conventional coatings in cost savings, performance and environmental effects.
Avoiding traditional solvents and energy intensive thermal curing, her approach is as elegant as it is radical. That approach has resulted in our EcoBloc™ (nanotechnology enhancement) and EcoQuik™ families of UV-curable coatings — coatings that are lower in cost, higher in performance and eco-friendly.
Ecology Coatings continues to make technological breakthroughs. This is evidenced by recent research identifying certain new bio-based materials that function as a UV-curable coating or as a bio-based photoinitiator in UV-curable systems. The company filed a PCT patent application pertaining to the materials, and in May 2011 received a report from the U.S. Patent Office stating that the material claims made by Ecology Coatings were indeed novel, non-obvious and had industrial utility, corroborating the unique nature of the technology. The company expects accelerated patent approval in 2012.
